Stig Albertsson - Resort executive
Stig Albertsson, the former president of Stratton Mountain Corporation and an early adopter of the Alpine slide for resorts, passed away on August 22, 2024. He was 93.
Born in Lindås, Sweden, Albertsson went on to study mechanical engineering there and later served two years in the Swedish military. In 1971, he purchased Bromley Mountain in Vermont and started a lifelong career in the recreation industry. Striving to establish a four-season attraction at Bromley, he opened the first Alpine slide in North America in 1976. During this time, Albertsson also served as the president of Stratton Corporation, overseeing construction of the village at the base of the mountain and expanding its golf and tennis operations. Later endeavors included the hydro-fan snowmaking machine and a mountain coaster.
