Roy Richard Sherwood passed away peacefully on October 19, 2017, at the age of 85.

Sherwood was a lifelong resident of Salisbury, Connecticut, a town with a ski-jumping tradition dating back to the arrival of a group of Norwegians around 1920. Sherwood won the National Ski Jumping Championship in Ishpeming, Michigan, in 1954, which qualified him as an Olympian, and he competed in the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy. He continued to jump until 1971, and worked for the town of Salisbury highway department for more than 30 years while promoting ski jumping and training young jumpers.
