Jeremy Nobis - Olympian, freeride pioneer
Former U.S. Alpine Ski Team athlete and Olympian Jeremy Nobis passed away April 19, 2023, in Cedar City, Utah at the age of 52, due to complications of alcoholism.
Nobis was born in Wisconsin but moved to Park City in his youth. He attended Vermont’s Green Mountain Valley School and won World Junior Championships in 1988 and 1989. He made the U.S. Ski Team at age 16 and competed in tech events on the World Cup circuit through 1995. He competed in the slalom and giant slalom in the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics and finished ninth in the GS. His sister Shannon Nobis also competed for the U.S. Ski Team in Lillehammer.
Retiring from Alpine racing in 1996, Nobis turned to big mountain freeride skiing and helped introduce the sport to a mainstream audience. He starred in several Warren Miller films, and films by Teton Gravity Research. Dynastar marketed a Jeremy Nobis signature ski.
