Jane Fitzpatrick Pitman - Public relations executive
Jane Fitzpatrick Pitman, a ski-industry public relations executive, passed away on February 17 at Salem Hospital in Marblehead, Massachusetts. She was 92.
Jane attended Boston’s Academie Moderne and the Stratford School of Business. After a first marriage to John Thuet, she married Theodore Pitman Jr., a vice president of the advertising firm Doremus & Co., which among other accounts worked for John F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign. Jane’s own public relations and advertising firm, Pitman Communications, spanned four decades, from the final days of the ski trains out of Boston to the phenomenal growth of snowboarding. Her clients included Mt. Cranmore, the ski retailer Streeter & Quarles, the Volvo International tennis tournament and the Mt. Washington Valley Association. In the early sixties she was the publicist for the Harry Leonard Ski Shows.
Upon her husband’s death in 1997, Jane folded her PR firm but continued to do publicity for Bernie Weichsel’s BEWI Productions. Jane was the recipient of the National U.S. Ski Team award for fundraising. She was also the 18th recipient of the BEWI Award, given annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to snow sports.
