James “Randy” MacDonald - U.S. Ski Team trustee, Windham resort owner

U.S. Ski Team trustee and Windham resort owner James Randall “Randy” MacDonald of Greenwich, Connecticut, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He was 63 years old.

At St. Francis University, MacDonald earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in industrial relations. He went on to a distinguished career as a human resources executive, rising through the ranks at Ingersoll-Rand, Sterling Drug, GTE and IBM, where he was senior vice president of human resources. He was a nationally recognized expert on organizational change, lecturing at universities and testifying before Congressional committees.

An enthusiastic skier, after retiring from IBM in 2011 MacDonald purchased majority ownership of Windham Mountain Partners in New York, and was CEO of its resort operations. The same year he became a trustee of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Foundation and served in that capacity until his death.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, sister Gail, daughter Megan, her husband Dawson, and grandsons Winfield and Charles. —Seth Masia
