Bill Quigley - Ski Shop Entrepreneur
William Quigley, a partner in the Danzeisen & Quigley ski shop in southern New Jersey, died March 11, 2024, on his 83rd birthday.
Quigley grew up working in his father’s ski shop, founded in 1937 in Watertown Connecticut. While studying at the University of Connecticut he met his wife, Gretchen. He joined Union Carbide, and the couple moved to Willingboro, New Jersey, then on to Medford.
In 1971 he joined Joe Vitale and Bob Danzeisen to expand Danseizen Ski and Sport (founded 1961) into a regional chain. The company operated four locations before consolidating into a 31,000-square-foot store in Cherry Hill, a suburb of Philadelphia.
Quigley served as president of the buying group Ski Merchandizing Corporation (SMC) for 20 years.
