Armando Trovati - World Cup photographer

Veteran World Cup photographer Armando Trovati died on August 6, 2017 in Milan, Italy. He was 73.

Born on February 13, 1944, Trovati started working with the AP as a teenager, beginning as a darkroom assistant and eventually shooting news and sports. He started covering the World Cup during the 1968–1969 season and continued to shoot for the AP for decades. In the 1970s he founded his own agency—ART Photo, which became PentaPhoto. The company is now run by his sons. He served as photo coordinator at many World Cup events and FIS Alpine World Championships, and was chief photographer for the 2006 Winter Games.

Trovati also edited several ski photography books, including a 1988 volume about Olympic champion Alberto Tomba. His company produced the World Cup Ski Guide for many years. He is survived by his wife, Roberta, his sons, and two grandsons. —Patrick Lang; PDN Pulse
