Jan. 10, 2005 Five named to women's jumping team Americans head to Europe for first-ever
Continental Cup competitions PARK CITY, Utah (Jan. 10) - A five-member U.S. women's ski jumping team, headed by World Junior Championships bronze medalist Lindsey Van (Park City, UT), has been named to compete in women's Continental Cup competition in Europe through Feb. 19, the U.S. Ski Team said. U.S. Nordic Director Luke Bodensteiner said the selections included four skiers from Park City, including two of the top four women's jumpers last season - Van and Jessica Jerome, who was No. 4 internationally. Each won one of the women's Grand Prix contests a year ago. The group: Van and Jerome plus Alyssa Johnson (also Park City, UT), Brenna Ellis (also Park City, UT) and Karla Keck (Oconomowoc, WI), one of the sport's veterans in this country who has returned to competition after taking time away for several years. The International Ski Federation elevated the Women's Grand Prix to Continental Cup status this winter and women's jumping officials globally are hopeful it can be added to the 2010 Olympics lineup in Vancouver. |
