SALT LAKE CITY -- The International Skiing History Association honored nine writers at its 2003 awards banquet.

Bill Grout, long-time Skiing Magazine editor and currently editor-in-chief at Mountain Sports Press, was given a Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism and Publishing. Grout's company, a division of Mountain Sports Media, has recently published a growing series of handsome books on the history of ski towns.

Another Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism went to Mike Korologos, who for decades covered the ski scene for the Salt Lake Tribune and Reuters before joining the Salt Lake Olympic bid committee as public relations director.

Ullr and Skade Awards for outstanding achievement in writing ski history went to Alan Engen and Greg Thompson for their book First Tracks: A Century of Skiing in Utah; Michel Beaudry for Against All Odds: Whistler; David Gonzales for Jackson Hole: On a Grand Scale; Tom Bie for Steamboat Springs: Ski Town USA; Ingrid Wicken for her history of Southern California skiing, Pray for Snow; and Alexis Kelner for Skiing in Utah.

ISHA has presented these awards annually since 1993.
